As I ventured into my teenage years I started to recognize so many problems in our world and the one that stood out to me the most was homelessness. I soon learned that a lot of people weren't homeless because of a fault of theirs, but instead because of socioeconomic factors. At the same time my passion for baking started to grow and that’s when Bake4Sake was born. I contacted a few homeless shelters asking them if I could bake for their homeless residents. Initially, many of them said I was too young so I conducted a neighborhood bake sale, in which I raised $150, and an ingredients drive at my school. After a promising start I directly emailed the CEOs of these shelters, gave them my background, and asked them if I could bake for the homeless residents. They directed me to the kitchen coordinators and volunteer coordinators and this time they agreed to let me bake. So my team and I started to bake for the shelters. The feeling I got after my first few times helping others was inexplicably heartwarming and so I soon recruited my friends and peers to join me in an effort that continues until this very day. The biggest reward of all was by far the smiles and appreciation from the homeless residents we were fortunate enough to serve. Now our mission has spread across the country, bringing together young bakers who love to help the community. So far Bake4Sake has been able to serve 19,800+ desserts, start 11+ chapters, and partner with 26+ shelters.
